Information for parents and carers

  This Half term your child will be learning around the topic ‘Amazing places and spaces in UK’. Your child will be learning the following:
English Narrative, poetry and non-chronological report text types.
Maths Data handling, number and place value and measures (capacity, mass and length).
Science Identify, name, draw and label the basic parts of the human body and say which part of the body is associated with each sense.  Describe and compare the structure of a variety of common animals (fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals, including pets).  Identify and name a variety of common animals that are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.  Identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.

To learn about the national days of each country: St George’s day in England; St Andrew’s day in Scotland, St David’s day in Wales and St Patrick’s day in Ireland.

To listen to and learn some of the National Anthem.

Study the location of the school, pick out the most interesting features and study some of the wildlife that is seen through the seasons.

To ask and answer geographical questions such as : What is this place like? What or who will I see in this place?

To identify the key features of a location to say whether it is a city, town, village, coastal or rural area.

To use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of the school and the key human and physical features of its surrounding environment


The Religion for this term is Judaism and the key learning question is:

-What can be learnt from the lives of significant people?

ART/Design Technology line drawing, collage, sculptures and painting of landmarks from the United Kingdom and the local environment around school.
Homework At the beginning of every week, your child will be given spellings to learn in preparation for a test on Friday. It is very important that you practise the words with your child as Year 2 children are tested on spellings in their SATs. Reading as much as possible with an adult at home it also very important in year 2. During each half term, your child will be given a homework project to complete. This project will relate to what they have been learning in class.
Extra information To promote a love of reading in Class Monkey, we are starting a book club every Friday. Your child can bring a book of their choice into school, share the book with friends and then undertake an activity around their book.
